We have an opening for a Senior Analyst (3-5 years)/Lead (5 - 8 years)
in Equity Research with one of our prestigious client companies in
Bangalore.
Our client's Equity Division is responsible for managing over $800bn
through more than 250 mutual funds, mainly in the US. The business is
headquartered in Boston, MA with a small but growing presence in London.
Most Portfolio Managers favour a bottom-up stock picking approach to
portfolio construction, and they are supported by one of the largest
buy-side research teams of 150 research analysts and associates. Equities
research is solely for their equity funds and made available only to
their Investment professionals.
Team Overview:
The Equity Research team in Bangalore is a part of the Business
Analytics & Research group. The team was started in Aug 2006, and has
continually grown since then. Sector specialists provide equity research
support to more than 20 research analysts in Boston and London, covering both
US and International markets. Some of the sectors covered are
telecoms, utilities, financials, healthcare, autos and consumer. They are now
looking to expand this team by adding more Sector Specialists.
Sector Specialist: Roles & Responsibilities:
· The Sector Specialist will work with a dedicated group of 10
Portfolio Managers / research analysts in Boston to help them in
generating investment ideas. The research effort is likely to be spread over
multiple sectors and geographies.
1 Some examples of equity research projects undertaken by Sector
Specialists are:
· Relative valuation for stocks and indices in a sector.
Developing valuation dashboards for a sector
1 Developing and maintaining sector overview sheets
2 Creating industry databases, and analyzing them for trends
3 Creating long term demand supply models within sector and
deriving forecasts on capacity, market share, capital investments, pricing
etc.
4 Business cycle analysis to identify turning points in industry.
5 Construction of indices for select market segments. Calculating
relative performance of such indices or stocks vs. market.
Identification of key factors which may drive relative performance, and testing
them with data.
· Sector Specialists also spend a considerable amount of time
working on ad-hoc projects with their research analysts, developing
insights into their sectors through topical research issues.
1 Frequent travel to Boston / London is expected.
Sector Specialist: Required / Preferred Skills:
The role requires frequent use of concepts in US GAAP accounting,
economics, statistics, financial markets, financial statement analysis,
ratio analysis and industry analysis. An MBA or a CA degree is required,
CFA is a plus.
At least 4 years experience in investment research. Knowledge of some
specific international sectors is desirable but not necessary.
Collecting, analyzing and presenting data relevant to the research
problem at hand is a core skill. Candidates should have excellent skills in
MS Excel and MS Word. Expertise is some applications such as
Bloomberg, Reuters, Factset etc. is required.
Candidates need to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be a team
player, and be able to work under pressure and time constraints.
The Sector Specialist may interact extensively with people of various
nationalities, and strong communication and interpersonal skills are a
must. International experience is a plus.
The role is largely self-driven and self-managed, with minimal
supervision on a day to day basis. Candidates are required to have a high
degree of professionalism, integrity, commitment and energy.
The successful candidate should be an independent thinker with the
ability to effectively articulate his/her research analysis and have a keen
interest in worldwide equity markets and research.
